Ms. Margaret Lagorio
October 6, 1995
Page 2
flatbed truck and is powered by an onboard generator that provides the electrical power (110 volts
AC) to operate sampling pumps, a steam cleaner, and other field equipment.
The DPS 550 rig consists of a hydraulic probe installation and removal device mounted on the
back of the flatbed truck. The system employs a 550 pound hydraulic hammer and a driving-
removal ram that can generate 100,000 pounds of force. The probes consist of 10-foot sections
of 2.5 inch OD drill steel. These probes can be driven to depths of up to 80 feet bgs in order to
sample without generating cuttings.
Samples will be screened on-site using a mobile laboratory for the following compounds:
• 1,1 dichloroethene (1,1- DCE)
• TCA
• TCE
• PCE
Any soil samples collected from the site will be sent to a fixed laboratory for analysis.
Decontamination Procedures
All sampling equipment will be decontaminated between each sample location. The sample
collection equipment will be cleaned in a solution containing TSP or Alconox, detergent, and
clean tap water and will be rinsed with de-ionized or distilled water. All waste decontamination
solutions will be contained in D.O.T.-approved containers for temporary on-site storage pending
determination of disposal options.
Health & Safety Procedures
All field activities will be conducted under a site specific Health & Safety Plan (HASP) prepared
in accordance with regulations set forth in 40 CFR 1919.120. Procedures for conducting work
safely at the site are outlined in the HASP. The HASP includes the following major components:
• general project and personnel information;
• facility/site information;
• project work plan;
• task and chemical specific safety and health risk analysis;
• site health and safety operating procedures; and
• contingency plan.
L\3P_AMER\RC951466.WP
10.06.95
jw caren°
FM HIt
ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING CORPORATION
.ecyGeo oaaw
