r, <br />NATIONAL ADVERTISING COMPANY— ADDITIONAL SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION HEALTH AND SAFETY PLAN <br />4.5.1 Water Supply <br />A water supply will be used, consisting of the following: <br />Potable Water. An adequate supply of potable water will be available for field personnel consumption. <br />Potable water will be available for field personnel: consumption. Potable water -can be provided in the <br />form of water bottles, canteens, water coolers, or drinking fountains. Where drinking fountains are not <br />available, individual use cups will be provided as:well as adequate disposal containers. Potable water <br />containers will be properly identified in order to distinguish them from non -potable water sources. <br />Non -Potable Water. Non -potable water may be used for handwashing and cleaning activities. Non - <br />potable water will not be used for drinking purposes. <br />4.5.2 Toilet Facilities <br />A minimum of one toilet facility will be provided for every 20 employees. Separate facilities for each sex <br />shall be provided unless there are less than five (5) total employees on site. <br />Exceptions to this requirement will apply to mobile crews where work activities and locations 'permit <br />transportation to nearby toilet facilities. <br />i 4.5.3 Washing Facilities <br />Employees will be provided washing facilities (e.g., buckets with water and Alconox®) at each work <br />location. The use of water and hand soap (or similar substance) will be used by each employee following <br />exit from the Exclusion Zone, prior to breaks and at the end of daily -work activities. <br />4.6 LIGHTING <br />At a minimum, all portions of each work location will be sufficiently lit so that all surfaces are <br />illuminated at 10 foot candles or greater.- Since work activities are expected to be conducted exclusively <br />outdoors and during daylight hours-, the use of supplemental lighting is not .anticipated. However, should <br />a need for supplemental lighting be identified (nightime work activities are required, etc.), its use will <br />conform to the following requirements. <br />Portable lighting may require the use of a portable generator to provide power. Care should be taken in <br />the operation of this equipment. Only personnel trained in the operations and maintenance of generators <br />will be permitted to operate the units. All electrical systems will include only Underwriters Laboratory <br />(UL®) -approved components, and all usage will conform with the following safety requirements: . <br />Grounding. The noncurrent -carrying metal parts of fixed, portable, or plug -connected equipment <br />shall be grounded. Electrical connections shall include a ground -fault interrupter system. Ground <br />wires shall be tested with an electrical resistance meter to assure conductivity as often as necessary to <br />assure safety. Portable tools and appliances protected by an approved system of double insulation <br />need not be grounded. k <br />Extension Cords. Extension Cords shall be the three -wire type for grounded tools (two -wire is' <br />permissible for double -insulated tools) and shall be protected from damage; do not fasten with staples <br />or extend across an aisle way or walkway. Worn or frayed cords shall not be used. Cords shall not be <br />run through doorways where the door could cut or damage them. <br />Light Bulbs, Exposed bulbs on temporary lights shall be guarded to prevent accidental contact, <br />except where bulbs are deeply recessed in the reflector. Temporary lights shall not be suspended by <br />their electric cords unless designed for this use.
