APPLIED
AEROSPACE
STRUCTURES
L19AAS CORP.
A metal coffee can of machine oil drippings was observed without a lid in the
Machine Shop.
We believe that the skimmer and the can which captures the skimmed oil is part of the
process. We feel that there's more chance of the operator forgetting to remove the lid to
the can and causing a spill upon startup, than to label the can and empty it daily. The
contents of the can was emptied into a waste oil drum which was disposed of on July 26,
2011 on Manifest No. 000037722DAT, Line item I 1 (Fig. 2).
A black plastic bag of graphite prepreg was observed unlabeled on top of a 55 gallon
drum of graphite pre-preg being removed from the Fiberglass Layup room.
The bag was compacted and placed in a drum. We believe that the bag was still in
process because after compacting the drum the black plastic bag of graphite pre-preg fit
inside and filled the drum. The drum was disposed of on July 26, 2011 on Manifest No.
000037722DAT, Line item 12 (Fig. 2). Labels will be provided to the area so employees
can place them on the bags prior to compaction. Employees will receive hazardous waste
training on August 17, 2011.
A black plastic bag of graphite pre-preg was observed unlabeled in the Building S
Layup room.
The bag was compacted and placed in a drum. The waste was generated from the flushing
and cleaning of the 5 gallon paint pots. Lines get clogged with the primer if not done on
the day the primer was sprayed. The buckets are part of the flushing process. They could
not empty it into the drum because it became full. The inspectors witnessed the full drum
as it was being brought to the hazardous waste storage area. A replacement drum was
brought into the area and the two 5 gallon buckets were poured into the new drum in the
presence of the inspectors. The new drum will be hauled offsite within 90 days after it
AASC Response to 7-11-11 Inspection Page 5
