Sims Metal Management Emergency R ne 2010 <br />6.0 Fire <br />In the event that a fire condition develops during operations and none of the Sims Metal <br />Management NW's employees on site have an extinguisher or access to an <br />extinguisher, contact 911. <br />6.1 As soon as fire conditions are noted, alert all personnel in the immediate area. <br />Ensure that no personnel are in immediate danger from the fire. <br />6.2 For a small fire: <br />6.2.1 Any fire, which can be controlled with a single 20 -pound fire extinguisher, <br />is defined as a small fire. <br />6.2.2 For any small fire in which the nature of the product on fire is known, and <br />does not pose a serious risk to health, contain and extinguish the fire as <br />rapidly as possible. <br />6.2.3 If containment or extinguishments is not affected immediately then the fire <br />should be treated as an emergency and containment and evacuation <br />begun immediately. <br />6.2.4 As soon as evacuation is assured, Sims Metal Management NW's SHEC <br />Coordinator should be notified of the fire condition. Sims Metal <br />Management NW may elect to notify the Fire Department or an industrial <br />fire brigade as they see fit, or delegate the duty to the outside contracted <br />Emergency Coordinator. <br />6.3 For any fire too large to control with a single fire extinguisher, or for any fire of <br />unknown origin or involving an unknown product, evacuation should be affected <br />immediately. <br />6.4 For a fire of any size of a known chemical that causes dangerous byproducts of <br />combustion, DO NOT attempt to extinguish the fire, evacuate the area <br />immediately. <br />6.5 For a fire involving energized electrical equipment, discontinue the power supply <br />if doing so doesn't place personnel in danger. <br />6.6 For any fire requiring evacuation, proceed immediately to the rally point and await <br />roll call and further direction. If the rally point is within a dangerous area due to <br />changes in scene conditions, withdraw to a safe location and attempt to locate <br />and contact the SHEC Coordinator as soon as possible. <br />6.7 In the event that arson is suspected, contact the proper authorities and report the <br />suspicion immediately. DO NOT re-enter the scene or disturb any potential <br />evidence. <br />7 <br />
