Used Brake Fluid- All used brake fluid from processed vehicles and company equipment. • -Hazardous in California and Massachusetts. (can be hazardous at any location if contaminated) • -Regulated at all APG locations. • -At a minimum, drum should be labeled with the phrase "used brake fluid". If hazardous, the drum should be labeled with a correctly filled out hazardous waste label. (APG EHS or your waste vendor will help with this) • -All bills of lading, manifest, receipts of sale must be kept for a minimum of 3 years. APG keeps these records indefinitely. • -Open bottles found in process vehicles may be disposed of with used brake fluid. Unopened bottles may be sold in the thrift store. • -These are general guidelines only, for specific information consult your regional EHS engineer. Reclaimed Gasoline- Gasoline recovered from salvage vehicles. • -Contaminated, non -useable gasoline is a hazardous waste at all APG locations. (Flammable characteristic) • -Gasoline that is a hazardous waste must be separated from useable reclaimed gasoline. Once you mix the two together, it is all now a hazardous waste! • -Drums or tanks with gasoline hazardous waste must be labeled with a hazardous waste label that is correctly filled out. (APG EHS or your waste vendor will help you) If you do not have a label, you can create your own temporary label and include at a minimum the phrases "used gasoline", "flammable hazardous waste", and the date the drum/tank was filled. • -All bills of lading, manifest, receipts of sale must be kept for a minimum of 3 years. Used Batteries- Lead Acid batteries from salvage vehicles and store equipment. -Non-useable lead -acid batteries are a special category of hazardous waste. Since we are selling them to vendor to be recycled, the rules are relaxed. However, they still must be stored properly and treated with care. -This is a regulated waste at all APG locations. -At a minimum, pallets/totes of used lead acid batteries must be labeled with the phrase "used lead acid batteries" and "corrosive".
