Certain machining tools requixe metal working fluid (coolant). The Machine Shop
also.uses lubricating and hydraulic oils in machining processes.
SOURCE REAUCTION/POLLUTION PREVENTION EVALUATION
Description of Measure•
'Phis waste stream is made up of 90% water and 10% coolantloil. Since 2010 SNLlCA has
evaluated the feasibility of purchasing an oil/water separator filter system to separate the
coolantloil from the water, and thus allow the water to be discharged to the Publicly Owned
Treatment Works (POTW).
Since 2010, Bldg. 914 has experienced a change in management and business operations
that resulted in the reduction of 4,17$ lbs. of this waste stream. It is anticipated that with
the increased awareness of water conservation, this reduction will continue in the future.
This waste stream will continue to be monitored annually against the cost of purchasing the
separator filter system.
September 1, 2015 SB14 Plan iII-25
