The <br />Microstructures Lab is dedicated to the fabrication of small electronic, mechanical, <br />optical and flow system devices. These devices are fabricated using photolithography, <br />vacuum thin film deposition, spin casting, chemical vapor deposition, wet chemical slid <br />dry plasma etching. <br />Operations that generate wastewater to the Liquid Effluent Control System include <br />rinsates from wet etching and from photolithographic developing. Other wastewater <br />discharges include washing/rinsing of laboratory glassware, utensils, and finally drainage <br />from our wafer dicing saw and spin rinse/dryers. <br />SOURCE REDUCTION/POLLUTION <br />Description of Measure: <br />None identified SNUCA plans to continue to conduct initial washing and rinsing of <br />glassware and utensils over the bath and the second (final) rinse at the sink. This <br />measure reduces the volume of water used for washing and rinsing of glassware and <br />utensils significantly. <br />III. The life of the <br />floor can be extended nearly indefinitely with a maintenance program that is consistent <br />with the traffic/dirt load. <br />Custodial personnel wax and strip all tiled floors on an as -needed basis. They use <br />commercial finishers, sealers, and finish removers for floor finishing operations. Floor <br />finishes (waxes) provide an attractive, clear, protective, and removable layer over the <br />floor surface. <br />Floor stripping wastes from various buildings (except B581) are consolidated in B418 <br />where they are analyzed for contaminants prior to treatment or offsite disposal.
