13.4.5 In the event oftries, fire, or chemical release whic may affect employees'
or the surrounding community, immediately contact the Fire Department.
13.4.6 Employees will not be allowed back into the facility until the Emergency
Coordinator, under advisement from the ERT, management, engineering,
and maintenance, is satisfied that it is safe to re-,enter. It should be noted
that considerable aftershocks may occur and that further damage may result.
13.4.7 Any substantial structural damage must be repaired before regular
operations can resume in that area.
13.4.8 If employees cannot be allowed to re-enter the buildings in a reasonable
amount of time, they should be sent home until further notice. This decision
must be made by upper management, and must take into consideration the
availability and safety of public roadways.
13.4.8.1 If deemed safe, employees will be escorted by ERTs to their lockers or
work areas to get keys or other necessary personal items.
13.4.8.2 Employees will be notified or may call the plant for information on when
normal operations will resume.
13.4.8.3 Essential personnel will remain on site to maintainlrepair equipment
and ensure a smooth start up.
13.5 In the event of a minor earthquake, the following precautions should be taken:
13.5.1 The Engineering Department will assist departmental personnel to check all
buildings for obvious signs of damage.
13.5.2 A general evacuation is not necessary unless an emergency condition such
as fire or chemical spill exists.
14.0 HAZARDOUS MATERIAL RELEASE PROCEDURE
This section outlines the procedures in the event of a hazardous materials release.
14.1 This section must be implemented in the event of one or more of the following
conditions:
14.1.1 The release or threatened release of hazardous materials which may expose
employees or the community to hazardous levels.
14.1.2 The release or threatened release of hazardous materials outside of its
secondary containment or when it may cause soil, water, or air
contamination.
ERT Contingency Plan Page 14 06/23/99
