16.5.1.2 In the case of eye contact, flush the eyes for a minimum of 15 minutes <br /> for acids and a minimum of 30 minutes for bases. The victim must keep <br /> the eyes open with the fingers while rolling their eyes. No chemicals <br /> other than cold water may be used for rinsing eyes. 'Keep flushing <br /> eyes until paramedics take over. <br /> 16.5.1.3 In the case of skin contact, remove all contaminated clothing and <br /> continue to wash skin under the shower. <br /> 16.5.1.4 An injured employee must always be accompanied by an ERT at all <br /> times while using an emergency eyewash/shower. <br /> 16.5.2 If chemical inhalation occurs remove the victim to fresh air. Provide oxygen if <br /> the victim is having problems breathing. Provide CPR if the victim stops <br /> breathing. NOTE: Oxygen is located in the Occupational Health Coordinator <br /> office, on the counter in the northeast corner of the building. <br /> 16.5.3 Any employee who is exposed to hazardous materials and is being <br /> transported to a hospital or clinic must be decontaminated prior to leaving the <br /> contaminated area. Remove any contaminated clothing and provide <br /> employee with a blanket or tyvek suit. <br /> 16.5.4 Provide a copy of the appropriate Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) in the <br /> event an employee is transferred to a hospital or clinic. MSDS's are located <br /> in the Quality Control Laboratory. Always refer to MSDS sheets for proper <br /> first aid procedures. <br /> 17.0 OUTSIDE AGENCY NOTIFICATION 1 WORKING WITH THE NEWS MEDIA <br /> The purpose of this section is to outline the procedures for notifying outside regulatory <br /> agencies in the event of an emergency. It is important that these procedures be <br /> followed since large fines for failure to report can result. <br /> 17.1 It is the responsibility of the Production Supervisor to assess any emergency <br /> and determine which outside agencies if any should be notified. Primarily 911 will <br /> summon emergency services. Depending on the severity or potential for <br /> environmental impact, the Production Supervisor may have the ER <br /> Coordinator/Liaison make agency notifications. <br /> 17.2 Unauthorized employees are not to contact outside agencies during emergencies <br /> with the exception of 9-1-1 (Plant restricted phones dial #12-11). <br /> 17.3 Verbal notification to outside agencies is to be made without interfering with the <br /> immediate control of the incident, and only after the Production Supervisor is <br /> informed of the incident. <br /> HIO'Contingency Plan Page 19 06/23/99 <br />
