i
Ronald A. Burt - 2 - 21 May 2004
4. Kearney needs to evaluate the usefulness of monitoring well DMW-1, which is characterized as a
deep water bearing zone well even though it is partially screened in the lower intermediate zone.
Groundwater level information provided from the well does not correlate with either the lower
intermediate or deep water bearing zones. Regional Board and DTSC staff can then evaluate
whether this well is beneficial to the monitoring program at the site.
5. There was an exceedence of 1,1-dichloroethane in the sample collected 26 January, but on
5.February the effluent was re-sampled and reported as non-detectable. In March, the remedial
system had effluent limit exceedences of 1,1-dichloroethene, trichloroethene, and total volatile
organic compounds, as stated in the Status Report and the 15 April 2004 Monthly Operations
Report March 2004. Kearney shut down the system based on the March sampling data and
began corrective measures to clean and repair the air stripper. These exceedences are not
acceptable. Future exceedences of the effluent limits or discharges or fully treated groundwater
may result in the issuance of Notice of Violation, which could lead to monetary penalties.
The next quarterly report is due by 1'August 2004, as required by the MRP.
