HAZARDOUS WASTE ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: Four types of hazardous wastes are generated at LOF-Plant #10. The first category is made up of 70% sand and soda ash, 20% limestone, selenium, cobalt oxide and nickel oxide. The second category includes chromium III oxide which converts to chrome VI from heating and oxidation in glass melting furnace. The third group consists of lead oxide materials (for the black bands on windshields) along with zinc, manganese, chromium and nickel. The fourth type is liquid oil and oil mixed with absorb under the plant machines. The facility generated approximately 400 tons of solid waste. One (1) tons of waste oil and three (3) tons of asbestos in 1990, for an approximate solid waste total of 404 tons. VII. VIOLATIONS: "See Report of Violation and Schedule of Corrections". VIII.OBSERVATIONS: Pamela Violett and I arrived at LOF at approximately 1000 hours. We identified ourselves and met with John H. Kohring, Environmental Coordinator. We explained the nature of our routine inspection. At Mr. Kohring's office we reviewed the facilities operating records, including hazardous waste receipts and manifests, contingency plan, waste analysis and training records. Following the review of the operating records, Mr. Kohring gave us a tour of the hazardous waste storage area. During the inspection two 55 gallon steel drums had accumulation start dates of October 1990 and October 1988. One 55 gallon drum did not indicate composition of the waste and one 5 gallon oily drum was missing a lid. Several 5 gallon pails of paint from the ceramic silk screening area had missing lids. IX. DISCUSSION WITH MANAGEMENT: At the conclusion of the inspection we asked Mr. Kohring if he had any questions, he stated he did not. I advised Mr. Kohring that he would be receiving a "Report of Violations and Schedule of Corrections". At this time Ms. Violett and I left the facility.
