MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE; <br /> Every operations employee who may have cause to wear <br /> respiratory protection will receive an annual physical <br /> examination by an AMA board certified Occupational Health <br /> Physician. This physical program is outlined In TEC SOP <br /> 88-002 (Medical Surveillance). This physical examination <br /> shall include a pulmonary function test using a CAL-OSHA <br /> approved spirometer test three (3) times during a single <br /> examination. An average of the three test results <br /> shall be used to determine suitability for wearing a <br /> respirator. The results of this test and all physical <br /> examination results shall be kept by the TEC safety <br /> officer. Employees are entitled to review their medical <br /> records at any time during normal business hours. It <br /> will be the responsibility of the safety officer to <br /> schedule each employee for their annual physical examination <br /> at least two (2) weeks prior to the annual expiration <br /> date. No employee shall be required to wear respiratory <br /> protection if the Occupational Medical Physician and/or <br /> safety officer determines they are not physically fit <br /> to do so. <br /> TRAINING <br /> The safety officer shall conduct annual training in <br /> the selection of, use, care, maintenance, cleaning, <br /> and sanitizing of all respiratory protective equipment. <br /> During this training the safety officer shall ensure <br /> each employee attains a good gas-tight face seal by <br /> using isoamyl acetate and/or smoke while wearing an <br /> air purifying respirator under simulated work <br /> conditions. Donning and doffing procedures of <br /> respiratory protective equipment shall be taught <br /> annually. The safety officer shall conduct quarterly <br /> reviews of respiratory protective training. <br /> CLEANING, INSPECTION AND SANITIZING: <br /> Each employee shall be responsible for cleaning and <br /> sanitizing their assigned respiratory protective <br /> equipment. After each use or at least monthly all <br /> facepieces, T-Bars, line breather regulators, SCBAs, <br /> and ancillary equipment shall be cleaned using a <br /> mild soap and water solution. This equipment shall <br /> be drip dried. No abrasives of any type shall be <br /> used on respiratory equipment. Any equipment that <br /> cannot be satisfactorily cleaned shall be turned into <br /> the safety officer. <br /> At least monthly all respiratory equipment shall be <br /> inspected as follows: <br /> O Facepiece - no scratches to obscure vision; no <br /> cracks, dents, or breaks; face seal Is not distorted <br /> to prevent a good seal; net, If applicable, is not <br /> torn or frayed; strap and horseshoe clips are Intact. <br /> O T-Bar - Gaskets are sufficient to provide a good <br /> seal between cartridges and T-Bar as well as T-Bar <br /> and face piece, inhalation valve Is removed, inspected <br /> to ensure contour, check for pin holes, abrasions, or <br /> tears, inhalation valve seat is smooth, Inhalation valve <br /> is replaced; exhalation valves (2) are removed, inspected <br />
