This method of early detection promotes early <br /> treatment long before many temporary or long term health <br /> problems can establish a foothold In the body. <br /> TEC intends to: <br /> O Safeguard the health and safety of employees in the <br /> routine work environment through the application of the <br /> principles of Occupational Medicine. <br /> O Provide comprehensive assessment of the physical and <br /> mental fitness of participants to perform their assignments <br /> without undue hazards to themselves, their co-workers, or <br /> the public at large. (This program will also provide for the <br /> early detection of actual or potential alcohol and/or drug <br /> abuse.) <br /> O Assure the early detection and treatment of participant <br /> illness or injury by means of periodic health evaluation. <br /> O Serve as an Interface for Improving and updating <br /> procedures for the Environmental Health program. <br /> O Assist in the development, updating as necessary, and <br /> implementation of the medical emergency plan. <br /> O Provide for review and recommendations relative to <br /> medical equipment and supplies used by participants. <br /> O Provide for referrals to specialists, when necessary, <br /> for further testing, examination, treatment, or consultation. <br /> EXAMINATION: <br /> The physical examination shall include as a minimum the <br /> following history: <br /> O Occupational/Medical History. <br /> -----job-related illnesses or injury <br /> -----types of substances handled at work <br /> -----personal habits, smoking, drinking etc. <br /> -----medication history <br /> -----allergies <br /> -----immunizations, vaccines and antitoxins <br /> -----reproductive history <br /> The examination Itself should include: <br /> O Physical examinations <br /> Physical parameters evaluated include: basic physiological <br /> parameters such as vision, hearing, height, weight, and blood <br /> pressure (supine and standing). A physical examination <br /> Includes skin inspection, head, eye, ear, nose and throat <br /> examination; respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine, and <br /> gastrointestinal exam (Including rectal and stool occult <br /> blood). A complete neurological exam is essential. For <br /> female employees, breast and genito-urinary exam is <br /> required. <br /> - 8 - <br />
