d) A description of the medical surveillance program, and information concerning the <br />adverse health effects associated with excessive exposure to lead. <br />e) The engineering controls and safe work practices associated with the employees <br />job assignment. <br />3.7 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) <br />Prior to initiating activities involving potential contact with hazardous substances, the project <br />CIH will determine the potential chemical and physical hazards to prescribe appropriate PPE. <br />Level D protection will be the anticipated level, but actual prescribed PPE will depend on the <br />nature of the site to be sampled and the amount of hazardous substances. Level C will be the <br />minimum allowable level of personnel protection during initial excavation operations. No <br />field work will be performed at level B or higher. Prior to excavating, the Project Manager, <br />with the assistance of the site SHO, will review health and safety hazards and appropriate <br />personal protective equipment with the work crew. <br />3.7.1 Protective Clothing <br />The anticipated Level D PPE needed for this project includes: <br />• Normal work clothing or coveralls <br />• Hard hats <br />• Safety glasses <br />• Steel -toed safety boots with steel shanks <br />• Latex gloves. <br />Additional equipment for Level C PPE which will be available includes: <br />• Half mask air purifying respirator with NIOSH approved cartridges for dust, <br />fumes or mist, and organic vapors. <br />• PVC gloves <br />• PVC steel toed boots <br />• Tyvek overalls. <br />MZ/07-07-92/EES/ENG/2054r 3-8 <br />
