A multi-purpose chemical (A:B:C) fine extinguisher will be located at each work site and in
all IT vehicles. If a localized fire occurs, dry chemical fire extinguisher will be used to bring
the fire under control. If necessary and feasible, a fire blanket, soil, wastes, or other inert
materials will be placed on the burning area to extinguish the flames and minimize the
potential for spreading. The DDRW Tracy Fire Department will be notified of any and all
fires.
If an uncontrolled fire develops a potential for releasing toxic gases, all persons in the
immediate vicinity will be evacuated. The DDRW Tracy Fire Department will be contacted
immediately that fire assistance is required and what types of material are involved.
3.12.4 Spills
Handling procedures were developed to limit problems with material spillage. In the event of
a spill, the area will be isolated from traffic by the project manager or his authorized
representative. Any personal protective equipment will be removed and loaded into trash
bags for subsequent disposal. Liquid spills will be contained with absorbent material and the
absorbent loaded into appropriate containers for disposal. The appropriate DDRW Tracy
personnel will be notified.
3.12.5 Notification and Communication
Any mishap will be reported immediately to the COR, and followed within five days, by a
completed Engineering Form 3394. The site HSO and project manager will also be notified
immediately. Maps showing routes to the designated hospital and emergency phone numbers
will be located in support vehicles.
The following is a list of contacts. In the event of an emergency or unexpected occurrence,
the appropriate person(s) should be contacted as soon as possible.
• IT Project Manager John McGuire (510) 372-9100
• IT Project CIH Colin Brownlow (510) 372-9100
• Tracy Community Hospital (209) 835-1500
• Tracy FIRE/POLICE/AMBULANCE 911
MZ/07-07-92/EES/ENG/2054r 3-18
