• San Francisco Poison Center (415) 821-8324
• Tracy Contact: Marshall Cloud (209) 832-9908
Because the field effort is small and the team will be working together, on site
communications will be limited to visual and verbal signals. Offsite communications will be
made via mobile phone.
3.13 Standard Operation Procedures: Engineering Controls and Work Practices
The Project Manager will take positive steps to ensure that employees are protected from
physical hazards, which includes, but not limited to, the following:
• Insufficient or faulty personal protective equipment
• Insufficient or faulty operations equipment and tools
• Noise in excess of acceptable levels (noise protection will be provided, i.e., ear
plugs)
• Tripping over hoses, pipes, tools, or equipment
• Slipping on wet or oily surfaces
• Insecure footing.
3.13.1 General Safety Requirements
This SSHP was written to accommodate anticipated site conditions based upon known site
history. It is anticipated that EPA Level D will be the level of protection required for the
field investigation phase of this project. Level C protection will also be available, if needed.
No field work will be performed at level B or higher. If level B is required, the project CIH
will reevaluate this Work Plan. During soil sampling, no confined space entry or excavation
is anticipated.
MZ/07-07-92/EES/ENG/2054r 3-19
