V. SITE SAFETY PLAN <br />The contractor shall prepare a Site Safety Plan. The safety <br />plan shall accommodate the handling of the tank contents as <br />a flammable material. The tank contents may pose a potential <br />explosion hazard in confined areas such as tanks, buildings, <br />or poorly ventilated excavations. <br />The Site Safety Plan shall include details of the following <br />items: <br />o Worker safety information and instructions <br />o Procedures for working with flammable materials (i.e., <br />pumping flammable liquids, cutting tanks and pipes con- <br />taining flammable liquids or vapors, purging tanks of <br />vapors) <br />o Protective equipment <br />o Detection of combustible gas and oxygen <br />o Site security <br />o Notification of appropriate emergency agencies <br />o Spill reporting requirements <br />The Site Safety Plan shall be approved by Anheuser-Busch <br />Companies before start of work. <br />VI. REMOVAL OF TANK CONTENTS <br />One tank contains small amounts of unleaded gasoline and sedi- <br />ment. The other tank contains sand contaminated with gasoline. <br />The tank contents need to be removed. <br />o If a manway cover is not present or accessible, an open- <br />ing shall be cut in the tanks using a method which pre- <br />vents the possibility of flareup or explosion. <br />o A suitable pump shall be used to remove any liquid and <br />any pumpable sludge from the tank. <br />o Field personnel, equipped to ensure their safety, shall <br />then enter the tanks and scrap the inner walls clean <br />if necessary. Any solids or scrapings that accummulate <br />in the bottom of the tank shall be manually removed. <br />The tanks atmosphere must be tested for oxygen and flam- <br />mable gases before personnel are allowed entrance. <br />
