REMOVAL OF TANK CONTENTS
One tank contains small amounts of unleaded gasoline and sedi-
ment. The other tank contains sand contaminated with gasoline.
The tank contents need to be removed.
o If a manway cover is not present or accessible, an open-
ing shall be cut in the tanks using a method which pre-
vents the possibility of flareup or explosion.
o A suitable pump shall be used to remove any liquid and
any pumpable sludge from the tank.
o Field personnel, equipped to ensure their safety, shall
then enter the tanks and scrap the inner walls clean
if necessary. Any solids or scrapings that accummulate
in the bottom of the tank shall be manually removed.
The tanks atmosphere must be tested for oxygen and flam-
mable gases before personnel are allowed entrance.
