o All materials removed by pumping shall be placed in
pproved (RCRA and DOT) containers for i_ncinerateon
Transportation and incineration of the tank
are to be arranged by the contractor. Subcontractors
v)
be approved by Anheuser-Busch Companies prior to
use.
o The sand shall be removed and, if allowed by the Air
Quality Management District, spread on-site to allow
the gasoline to vaporize. If spreading is not allowed,
the sand will be landfilled at an approved site.
In addition to removing the contents of the tanks, it is
intended that all piping interconnected with the tanks be
drained as necessary, cutoff, purged and capped or otherwise
sealed. Arrangements shall be made to contain and dispose
of the pipe contents.
VII. TANK DECONTAMINATION AND DISPOSAL
The tanks shall be rinsed with water and the rinsate pumped
to approved containers for eventual incineration. l
Holes are to be punched in the tanks to prevent reuse. The
tanks are to be sold for scrap metal.
VIII. CONTAMINATED SOIL
If any contaminated soil is encountered, it is to be removed.
Determination of what soil is contaminated is to be made by
Anheuser-Busch using visual and olfactory senses and organic
vapor analyzers. Contaminated soil, if allowed by the Air
Quality Management District, will be spread on-site to allow
the gasoline to vaporize. If spreading is not allowed, a com-
posite sample of the soil will be taken. If the sample result
is less than 100 ppm of gasoline in the soil, the soil is
to be taken to a local sanitary landfill. If the sample result
is greater than 100 ppm of gasoline in soil, the soil will
be handled as hazardous waste.
Soil samples will be taken of the excavation floor and sidewalls
and analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons to verify field
measurements and to ensure all contaminated soil is removed.
IX. INCLEMENT HEATHER
Steps must be taken to prevent rain from entering the tank
excavation as long as it is open. Methods to be used include,
but are not limited to, tarps and dikes. If rain cannot be
kept from entering the excavation during the tank removal pro-
cess, work must discontinue until the weather clears. The exca-
vation will remain open for the installation of a new tank.
