Site Safety Plan for Excavation Activities April 8, 1996 <br /> Military Department OMS#24-Stockton <br /> HAZARDS ASSESSMENTS <br /> The purpose of the hazard analysis is to identify activities and conditions that may pose <br /> occupational hazards or an immediate danger to life and health of site personnel. This <br /> assessment also provides information for selection and application of personal protective <br /> equipment and environmental-monitoring methods. <br /> Hazard mitigation and monitoring is discussed in the next section of this SSP. <br /> PHYSICAL HAZARDS: <br /> Physical hazards that may be expected during site work include the following: <br /> • Mechanical hazards from backhoe and associated equipment (falling objects, pinch <br /> points, cuts, bruises, puncture wounds). <br /> • Noise from equipment <br /> • Slips, trips, sprains, etc. working around excavation site <br /> • Thermal stress, in this case from cold morning temperatures or from hot afternoon <br /> temperatures. Thermal stress is discussed in more detail, below. <br /> CHEMICAL HAZARDS: <br /> Liquid Phase: <br /> Gaseous Phase: <br /> Gaseous-phase chemical hazards may include vocalization of light-end hydrocarbons <br /> including,benzene, toluene, ethlybenzene and xylenes. <br /> 3 <br />
