Site Safety Plan for Excavation Activities April 8, 1996
Military Department OMS#24-Stockton
HAZARDOUS MITIGATION AND MONITORING
The following sections describe the procedures and equipment that will be used to
mitigate and monitor for possible hazards during work at the sites.
GENERAL WORK PRACTICES
• Workers must use the "buddy system" when wearing any respiratory protective device.
• Visual contact must be maintained between crew members and site safety personnel
when working on site.
• Workers should be alert to any abnormal behavior on the part of the other workers
that might indicate distress, disorientation, or ill effects from exposure to chemical
contaminants.
• Workers should never ignore symptoms that could indicate exposure to chemical
contaminants. Any symptoms should be reported immediately to their supervisor or
the Site Safety Officer.
• Level D personal protective equipment (PPE) shall be used at the site for most work
activities. Upgrading to Level C may be necessary if contamination levels require
protection from bodily contact and the filtering of breathing air. Following are
descriptions for the equipment required for each level.
Level D Gloves, Hard Hat, Eye Protection, Safety Boots, Hearing Protection
Level C Chemically resistant tyveks, Hard hat, inner latex gloves, Eye protection.
Outer chemically resistant gloves, Hearing protection, Chemically-resistant
safety boots.
4
