23 March 2004
AGE-NC Project No. 03-1055
Page 3 of 6
sample sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Each sample sleeve
was then labeled with a unique identification, the depth, time, date and sampler's initials.
Appropriately sealed and labeled samples were placed in a chilled container under ice.
The grab ground water sample was collected with a small teflon bailer attached to a pole. The water
was transferred into three laboratory-supplied 40-m1 volatile organic analysis(VOA)vials containing
0.5-m1 of 18-percent hydrochloric acid as sample preservative and one-liter amber glass container
without preservative.Each sample container was labeled with a unique identification,the time,date
and sampler's initials,then appropriately sealed,labeled,and placed in a chilled container with ice.
On 05 and 13 November 2003, the chilled sample containers were transported under chain-of-
custody procedure to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratory(CTEL)a State of California Department
of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory. At CTEL, stockpile soil samples STCK-7 through
STCK-10 were composited prior to analysis.
CTEL analyzed the soil and ground water samples for:
Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline or diesel(TPH-g and TPH-d)by EPA
Methods 8015 Modified;
a Benzene,toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes(BTEX) and Methyl tertiary butyl ether
(MTBE)by EPA Method 8260 Modified;
a Fuel oxygenates including t-Butyl Alcohol(TBA),di-isopropyl ether(DIPE),ethyl tertiary-
butyl ether(ETBE),tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME), 1,2-Dichloroethane(1,2-DCA)and
1,2-Dibromoethane (EDB)by EPA Method 8260 Modified; and
In addition,the soil and grab ground water samples collected on 05 November 2003 were analyzed
for total lead by EPA Method 6010B.
2.4. BACKFILLING OF EXCAVATION
On 13 and 14 November 2003, the excavation was backfilled using 5/16-inch pea gravel to
approximately 12 feet bsg. The remaining void was filled using clean overburden to surface grade.
Backfilling operations were overseen by a Precision Excavating and Drilling provided engineer.
2.5. DISPOSAL OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
On 22 November 2003, a total of approximately 670 cubic yards of impacted soil was loaded,
transported and disposed at the Forward Landfill in Manteca, California.Approximately 300 cubic
Advanced GwEnvironmentn4 Inc.
