23 March 2004
AGE-NC Project No. 03-105 5
• TPH-g was detected in stockpile samples STCK 1, STCK 3, and STCK 4 at concentrations
of 1.8 mg/kg, 5.0 mg/kg, 24 mg/kg, respectively.
• TPH-d was detected in stockpile samples STCK 2, STCK 3, and STCK 4 at concentrations
of 96 mg/kg, 300 mg/kg,460 mg/kg,respectively.
• MTBE was detected in stockpile sample STCK 1 at a concentration of 0.025 mg/kg.
• BTEX compounds were detected in stockpile samples STCK 1,STCK 3, and STCK 4 at
` maximum concentrations of 0.010 mg/kg, 0.14 mg/kg, 0.022 mg/kg, and 0.122 mg/kg, for
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes, respectively.
• Total lead was detected in stockpile samples STCK 1 through STCK6 at a maximum
concentration of 22 mg/kg in STCK 3 and STCK 6.
3.2. ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLE
One grab ground water sample(WS-5)was collected from the formerUST excavation and submitted
for TPH-g,BTEX, total lead and fuel oxygenate analysis.
- One ground water sample, WS-5,was collected during the UST removal. TPH-g and TPH-d were
detected in the ground water sample at concentrations of 2,400 micrograms per liter (gg/L) and
0.92 µg/L, respectively. The BTEX compounds, ethylbenzene and total xylenes, were detected at
concentrations of 14 gg/L and 15.1 gg/L,respectively. MTBE was detected by EPA Method 8260
Modified at a concentration of 5.6 gg/l. Analytical results of the ground water sample are
summarized in Table 1.
A summary of excavation samples analytical results is included as Table 2. Soil sample locations
are depicted on Figure 3.
The laboratory reports(CTEL Project No.CT214-0311040 and CT214-0311089),quality assurance
and quality control (QA/QC)report and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix E.
3.3. MASS CALCULATIONS
Based on the average hydrocarbon concentration ofTPH-g in excavation soil samples,UST removal
soil samples and soil boring samples, an estimated 70.79 gallons or 200.96 kilograms (kg) of
gasoline was removed from the site during both the UST removal and soil excavation procedures
(October and November 2003). In addition to 13 gallons or 64 kg of gasoline were removed during
.. the October 2000 excavation. The mass and volume calculations are presented in Appendix D.
- Advanced GwEnvironmental,Inc.
