J. H. KLEINFELDER & ASSOCrKFES
,une 13 , 1956
File No . : PW86-1030
?age 2
water depth of 29 feet , Laurie Cotulla of the Health Department
has requested that monitoring wells be installed around the
tank. We recommend submittal of our proposed scope of work to the
Health Department for their 'review and approval . We feel our
proposal is technically sound and appropriate for receiving
clearance from them.
SCOPE OF WORK
According to the California Underground Storage Tan.x
Regulations (Title 23 , Subchapter 16 of the California
Administrative Code) two monitoring wells are necessary, with at
least one located "down gradient of the ground water flow
direction. Regional gradient :raps for San Joaquin County, as wel;
as our own prior project experience in the Lodi area, indicate a
flow gradient in a south west direction. Consequent.-Y, we
propose that two monitoring wells be installed, one each located
at the north and south ends of the tank on the west side within
two feet of the tank backfill .
Monitor Well Installation
Two borings will be drilled with an eight inch diameter
i truck mounted 'hollow stem auger at the locations indicated above
to a depth 20 feet below the first encountered saturated zone or
five feet . into a confining clay zone. Based on current
information we estimate well installations to a 50 foot depth
will be necessary. Soil samples will be collected at five foot
intervals through the unsaturated soil zone to log the soil
lithology and to screen for the presence of hydrocarbons using a
portable volatile gas analyzer .
Two-inch diameter monitoring wells will be installed in the
borings according to the specifications outlined in section 2647
of the Subchapter 16 regulations . Kleinfelder will secure any
well permits necessary. The following construction materials and
standards are proposed for the each well installation:
o Two-inch diameter 0. 020 slotted Schedule 40 PVC screen to
extend up 20 to 30 feet from the bottom of the well .
o Blank Schedule 40 PVC will extend from the screened interval
to within a foot of the surface and will be capped with a
locking cover for security.
0 All PVC will be threaded with no glues used during assembly.
o Cleaned number three Monterey sand will be used as a filter
pack and will extend from the bottom of the we-.- to two feet
