9.03 Hazardous MaterialAmicy "./ <br /> • Corrosives - Any material or substance that can inflict damage if exposed to <br /> human skin. <br /> • Irritant-A chemical,which is not corrosive, but which causes a reversible <br /> inflammatory effect on living tissue by chemical action at the site of contact. <br /> • Extremely Hazardous Materials and Waste- Any hazardous waste or mixture <br /> of waste which may cause death, disability, or personal injury, such as <br /> Ethylene Oxide(ETO). <br /> • Carcinogenic- A chemical is considered carcinogenic if: it has been evaluated <br /> by IARC and found to be a carcinogen or a potential carcinogen; it is listed as <br /> a carcinogen or potential carcinogen in the Annual Report on Carcinogens <br /> published by the National Toxicology Program; or it is regulated by OSHA as <br /> a carcinogen. <br /> • Toxic or Highly Toxic- A chemical which is lethal when administered orally, <br /> by continuous skin contact or by vapor as defined in OSHA Standard <br /> 1910.1200, Appendix A. <br /> IV. Procedure <br /> A. Identification and Handling <br /> 1. All hazardous materials and hazardous waste materials used or <br /> generated will be properly identified and labeled. <br /> 2. No employee will remove or deface existing labels on incoming <br /> containers of hazardous chemicals unless the container is <br /> immediately marked with the required information. <br /> 3. Labels, or other forms of warning, will be legible, in English, and <br /> prominently displayed on the container, or readily available in the <br /> work area throughout each work shift. <br /> B. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) <br /> I. Managers will maintain copies of the required MSDS for each <br /> hazardous chemical used in his/her department(s) and will ensure <br /> that they are readily accessible during each work shift to <br /> employees when they are in their work area. <br /> 2. Each MSDS will be in English and will contain at least the <br /> �.. following information: <br /> 2 <br />
