Lodi Metal Tech, Inc.
Chronology of Events
Wastewater Release 8/24/2006
08/24/06 15:50
LMT received a call from Mr. Frank Beeler of the City of Lodi Public Works
Department. Mr. Beeler informed Mr. Merrill that they were considering an option other
than pumping the storm water line to a tank truck. As noted previously, standard
operating procedure for emptying/cleaning tank#1 and the settlement tank at LMT is to
contact the City of Lodi with LMT's intention for a batch release, inform the City of Lodi
of the estimated amount of the dump, and give the pH of the wastewater. When the City
of Lodi gives its permission, the wastewater is released into the sanitary sewer system.
Because the wastewater that was released into the storm drain would have been drained
into the sewer system in a few days, the City of Lodi was considering authorization to
pump the released wastewater directly from the storm drain system to the sanitary sewer
system. Mr. Merrill agreed that this was a simpler solution and would follow through
with any requirements made by the City of Lodi.
08/24/06 16:15
Mr. Merrill called Ms. Lori Luces of the San Joaquin County Office of Emergency
Services and left a message summarizing the conversation with the City of Lodi.
08/24/06 17:45
Mr. Merrill received a call from Mr. Raul Lomeli, a warden with the California State Fish
and Game Department. Mr Lomeli had heard of the release and was concerned that it
might reach the Delta watershed. Mr. Merrill explained that the spill was contained in
the City of Lodi storm drain system and promised to keep Mr. Lomeli updated as to the
clean-up process.
08/25/06 09:40
Mr. Frank Beeler of the City of Lodi called Mr. Merrill to inform him that the plan to
pump the released wastewater directly from the storm drain into the City of Lodi sanitary
sewer system was approved.
08/25/06 09:45
Mr. Merrill directed Mr. Holt, of LMT, to procure a pump with adequate hose lengths to
access the water in the storm drain sumps and reach the sanitary sewer line. At this time,
LMT did not know the locations of the sumps.
08/25/06 10:45
Mr. Merrill called Mr. Frank Beeler and indicated LMT was ready to work but did not
know the locations of the sumps. Mr. Beeler told Mr. Merrill that he would send
someone from the City of Lodi to provide assistance.
4 of 6
