It may be necessary to use a
hand pump to remove the bottom few inches of product.
3. Remove the fill (drop) tube. Disconnect the fill, gauge, and product lines. Cap or
plug open ends of lines which are not to be used further. The vent line should
remain connected until the tank is filled as outlined below.
4. Remove flammable vapors accordingly to paragraph #5 in the Removal Section of this
spec.
5. Proceed to introduce a suitable inert material through the fill and pump ends as
required to maintain a constant level. Concrete vibrators shall be used at both ends
to provide proper compaction.
a. Sand and cement slurry mix shall be used to fill the calculated capacity of the
tank until the tank is full and overflows the fill openings.
b. The Contractor shall provide proof of delivery of the sand slurry to the City of
Lodi.
6. Disconnect and cap the vent line.
7. VERIFY THAT EXCAVATION IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH TANK MANUFACIURER'S
SPECIFICATIONS.
1. TANK HOLE SIZE: Size excavation perimeter to allow 24" minimum. between tanks
and 12" minimum between tank sides and end caps and the wall of the tank hole.
2. Filter fabric will be used to line tank hole and cover granular backfill.
3. DEPTH OF TANK HOLE: Contractor is repsonsible for establishing the tank hole
depth, considering the length of piping runs, to the pump blocks and vent
risers, pipe burial depth, yard slope and the following criteria: (Measure at
the Remote Pump opening) .
a. A minimum of 12" backfill material is required under the tanks, except as
note on the plans.
b. The minimum depth of cover for steel tanks is 4'-0" and the maximum is 7'-0"
0" (not to be exceeded) .
c. Product lines shall be sloped 1/4" per ft. down to the tanks.
