C. MATERIALS: Page 12 of 13
1. CONDUIT AND FITTINGS: (CONTINUED)
c. ELECTRICAL METALLIC TUBING (EMT) : For interior use only. Cold rolled
steel, zinc coating outside, protective enamel coating inside. Fittings
shall be Tbmic, Socks, or equal; or compression ring, concrete tight type
with steel nuts. Set screw type of fittings are not acceptable.
d. PROTECTIVE COATING: Install protective coating on rigid steel conduits in
direct contact with earth or fill, consisting of two (2) layers of 0.010"
thick PVC or polyethylene tape, Johns-Manville #E-12 and #VID-10, Chase
#750, or equal, and protective overwrap, American Sisal Kraft #207, Chase
#770, or equal. Install tape and overwrap with 1/2" minimum lap.
e. RIGID PVC CONDUIT:
1. Schedule 40 rigid polyvinyl chloride electrical conduit, listed by UL
for direct underground burial, manufactured from high impact, non-
conducting, self extinguishing material.
2. COUPLINGS, ADAPTERS, EXPANSION FITTINGS: Conform to same requirements
as rigid PVC conduit. Use solvent cement for all PVC joints, as
recommended by conduit manufacturer.
3. BENDS: Factory made rigid steel conduit bends; PVC conduit bends not
acceptable.
2. EXPLOSION-PROOF JUNCTION BOX: Cross-Hinds #EG7 422, or GUB02, or equal, for
flush installation in concrete pump island of gasoline service station.
Provide sealing hubs, plugs, and conduit seals as indicated and as required by
Code.
3. EXPLOSION-PROOF CONDUIT SEALS: Appleton, Crouse-Hinds, or equal, with
manufacturer's approal compound.
4. WIRE: For ordinary dry and wet locations: Type THWN copper, marked per UL and
bearing their label. Minimum size shall be #12 AWG.
5. ISLAND POWER KILL SWITCH: 60A 3P, safety switch, non-fusible, NEMA3R enclosure,
Westinghouse, Square D, or equal.
6. CIRCUIT BREAKERS: Furnish and install additional circuit breakers of amperage
as specified. Furnish mounting hardware as required.
D. INSTALLATION
1. CONDUIT SYSTEM:
a. Install wiring in rigid steel conduit in above ground outdoor locations, and
EMT conduit may be used indoors.
b. Support conduits indoors by approved straps or hangers and install conduits
straight and true with respect to each other and adjacent construction.
