(SamplesPl to P6). TPH-diesel (C10 to C23) was reported at 780 mg/kg and TPH-motor oil
(C18+) in the seventh soil sample from below the pipeline (Sample P7). The soil contamination
in the area of pipeline sample P7 was characterized as in the oil range.
The non-detection of TPH-diesel and BTE&X in confirmatory samples P7-8' and P7-10.5
indicated that soil contamination found in the area of pipeline sample P7 was successfully
excavated.
SOIL DISPOSITION
A total of 130 tons of soil were excavated from above the removed UGT. This soil contained
diesel contamination ranging from 1.6 mg/kg to 5,200 mg/kg TPH-diesel. Benzene was not-
detected in the soil stockpile. Toluene was non-detected in seven of the eight samples and was
reported at 0.35 mg/kg in the eighth sample. Ethyl Benzene was non-detected in seven of the
eight samples and was reported at 0.35 mg/kg in the eighth sample. Xylene was non-detected in
four of the stockpile samples and ranged from 0.01 to 0.98 mg/kg in the remaining samples.
The average contaminant level in the 130 tons of soil was 805 mg/kg TPH-diesel, non-detected
Benzene, 0.004 mg/kg Toluene, 0.012 mg/kg Ethyl Benzene, and 0.13 mg/kg Xylene. The soil
contained an estimated 13 pounds (2 gallons) of diesel, no Benzene, 0.000065 pounds Toluene,
0.000195 pounds Ethyl Benzene, and 0.0016 pounds Xylene.
An estimated 25 tons of soil were excavated from the above the pipelines. An estimated 10 tons
of soil was over-excavated from the area of pipeline sample P7. TPH-diesel was reported at non-
detected to 2,800 mg/kg in the twelve samples from this area. The TPH-motor oil ranged from
non-detected to 3,800 mg/kg. TPH-motor oil levels can be compared to the TPH-diesel levels in
the three samples that were analyzed for both hydrocarbon ranges indicates. The comparison
indicates that the TPH-motor oil range levels were approximately 4 times higher than the TPH-
diesel range levels. Benzene was not detected in the twelve soil samples from the pipeline area.
Toluene was non-detected in eleven of the twelve samples and was reported at 0.030 mg/kg in
sample 2A. Ethyl Benzene was non-detected in seven of the eight samples and was reported at
0.044 mg/kg in sample 2A. Xylene was reported as non-detected in ten of the samples and was
reported at 0.044 mg/kg and 0.29 mg/kg in Samples D1 and 2A.
There are an estimated 35 tons of soil with motor oil contamination. Assuming that the oil
contaminant levels are four times higher than diesel range hydrocarbons reported, this soil has an
average TPH-motor oil level of 1,200 mg/kg. The average contaminant level for BTE&X are:
non-detected Benzene, 0.0025 mg/kg Toluene, 0.004 mg/kg Ethyl Benzene, and 0.03 mg/kg
Xylene. The 35 tons of soil contained an estimated 5 pounds (1 gallon) of motor oil, no
Benzene, 0.000001 pounds Toluene, 0.00002 pounds Ethyl Benzene, and 0.00012 pounds
Xylene.
1990 PICCOLI ROAD,STOCKTON CLOSURE
PAGE 3
