The purpose of the site
inspection was to become familiar with the general layout of the site and view the agricultural ditches that
have been the subject of discussion regarding sampling requirements. A site inspection photograph log is
enclosed with this letter.
The following observations were made during the site inspection:
• The storage reservoirs were under construction.
• Groundwater extraction was occurring. The extracted groundwater was being applied to land.
• The quality of water in the agricultural ditches is dependant on the farming operations. Water
observed in the agricultural ditches may consist primarily of irrigation water rather than
groundwater. Nevertheless, the Board recognizes the potential value in monitoring the agricultural
ditch water quality to determine if water quality trends can be determined.
• The land application areas were planted in silage corn and alfalfa.
Based on the site inspection observations and discussions with Mountain House consultants, the following
are required for the continued sampling at the site:
• Samples shall be collected as required by Monitoring and Reporting Program No. 98-109.
Sampling of the water quality of the agricultural ditches shall continue. Sampling of the shallow
groundwater monitoring wells can be performed without purging. If inadequate sample volume is
present in the monitoring well, the well shall be allowed to recharge an adequate time to collect the
required samples.
• An additional"Agricultural Ditch"sample shall be added to the monitoring network at the lift
station where water is pumped over the levee to Old River.
California Environmental Protection Agency
Qa Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real. Every Californian needs to take immediate action to reduce energy consumption.
For a list of simple ways you can reduce demand and cut your energy costs, see our Web-site at httD://wwsv.swrcb.ca.gov/rwgcb5
