..r Vol
02 December 2009
AGE-NC Project No. 96-0106
Page 3 of 10
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable drilling/monitoring well permits will be obtained from the EHD.
A Site Health and Safety Plan(SHSP)will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and
Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health Administration)and federal(29 CFR 1910.120)and state(Title 8,Cal.Code Reg.,
Section 5192) regulations. The SHSP will cover:
• Health and safety officer and key personnel,and personnel requirements and responsibilities;
• Field activities and standard operating procedures;
• On-site chemicals and potential hazardous substances as well as physical hazards;
• Existing site conditions, and description of personal protective equipment to be used by
personnel;
• Site control measures,including work zones and security measures,and entry procedures for
I ;confined spaces; and
• Exposure monitoring plan with monitoring methods, emergency response plan addressing
hazardous material/waste releases, and medical surveillance requirements.
All field personnel will be trained in hazardous materials communication and will have completed
a 40-hour Health and Safety Course as specified in OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and
Emergency Response Standard [29 CFR 1910.120(e)], and 8-hour annual refresher courses as
necessary.
Prior to mobilization,the area of investigation will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained
through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. PRELIMINARY AQUIFER VOLUME TESTING
Prior to application of the proposed ISCO media, a water injection test should be performed at the
site to assess the aquifer's volumetric capacity limitations (Appendix H). The manufacturer
(Regenesis)suggests that prior to any RegnOxTM injection,water should be injected into the aquifer
at a volume of 1.25 times the amount of any proposed RegenOxTM solution volume. It is critical to
the overall feasability of the pilot test application that the proposed aquifer volume test be performed.
Should the aquifer fail to accept the amount of water proposed for the clear water injection,it is not
likely that any scale application will be deemed feasible. A detailed description of the procedures
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
