Valley Water Treatment Page 5
Corrective Action Plan
GPE Project No.480.3
December 12,2006
will be guided by use of a PID organic vapor meter, to help determine the
extent of contaminated soil.
Upon completion of the excavation and' sampling, the pit will be back-filled
with clean fill, and the asphalt pavement will be replaced. The stockpiled soil
will be profiled and disposed of at a Class II landfill.
5.3 Confirmation Soil Sampling and Analysis
Upon completion of the excavation, soil samples will be collected from each of
the four sidewalls at a point just above the groundwater surface. The
samples will be collected with hand auger soil boring tools. The slide-hammer
driven sampler will be used to collect the samples directly from the sidewalls.
The end of each sample tube removed from the sampler will be sealed with
aluminum foil or Teflon sheets, capped with plastic end caps, secured with
tape, labeled and placed in a cooler at 4° Celsius for transport to the
laboratory using Chain of Custody protocol. Chain of Custody (CofC) forms
are documents used to track the handling of samples. All dates, times,
persons and companies handling the samples will be listed from the.time the
sample is collected to its ultimate disposal. All soil sampling equipment will
be decontaminated between uses by triple washing. Nitrile gloves will be
worn during sample collection and changed between collection of' each
sample.
5.4 Pit Dewatering
E .
E In an attempt to remove the most severely contaminated groundwater,
groundwater will be pumped out of the open pit:'prior to backfilling. The
water will be pumped directly into a vacuum truck owned and operated by
American Valley Waste Oil Company, for recycling. An estimated 1,000 to
1,500 gallons of water will be removed in this fashion.
5.5 Monitoring Well Replacement
Upon backfilling of the excavation, the former monitoring well, MW-1, will be
replaced and designated as MW-1R:
A,hollow stem auger drilling rig, owned_ and operated by C-57 licensed water
well contractor will be used to drill an 8-inch diameter soil boring to a total
depth of 20 feet. All soil cuttings will be placed in drums and temporarily
stored, pending profiling and determination of proper disposal methods.
2937 Veneman Ave.,#8240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
