DRILLING METHODS. The installation of wells, monitoring tubes,
and lysimeters shall be performed using the following:
Dual-wall reverse circulation drilling using air for circulation
and retrieval of soil cuttings. The following outside diameters
(O.D. ) shall be required: 5-1/2 inch O.D. ; 6-5/8 inch O.D. ; 9
inch O.D. , and 12 inch O.D. Drilling equipment shall accommodate
3 inch O.D. thin-walled tube and split barrel samplers. Drilling
equipment shall also accommodate the installation of wells,
monitoring tubes, and lysimeters using the tremie method to place
grout without removing the outer drill casing.
Hollow-stem augers with minimum inside diameters of 4-1/4 inches
and 6-1/4 inches shall be required. Drilling equipment shall
accomodate 3 inch O.D. thin-walled tube and split barrel samplers,
and 2-1/2 inch and 4 inch injection wells, as specified herein.
Grout shall be emplaced using the tremie method without removing
the outer drill casing.
Before completing borings or construction of wells, monitoring tubes, or
lysimeters and when a borehole is unattended, it shall be secured to
prevent introduction of any foreign material into the borehole.
Drilling fluid and cuttings generated during advancement of the boring
shall be collected and disposed of in accordance with Section 2A-12.
All monitoring tube borings shall be drilled using the dual-wall reverse
circulation method.
