shall be drilled at a 450 angle from vertical . IW-6 and 7 shall be <br /> oriented parallel with retort numbers 1 and 2; IW-8 shall be oriented <br /> at a horizontal angle of approximately 150 west of the east face of the <br /> retort pit; and IW-9 and IW-10 shall be drilled vertically as shown on <br /> Drawing G-2. <br /> Split barrel , ring-lined split barrel , and thin-walled tube sampling <br /> shall be performed in accordance with requirements of Section 2A-5. <br /> Hollow-stem auger drilling shall be performed as required to satisfy the <br /> requirements for advancing the boring and cleaning the borehole for each <br /> sampling procedure. <br /> Borings for the angled injection wells (IW-6, 7 and 8) shall have a <br /> minimum inside diameter of 4-1/4 inches. The hollow-stem auger boring <br /> for IW-9 and IW-10 shall have a minimum inside diameter of 6-1/4 inches. <br /> The boring for the extraction well shall have a minimum outside diameter <br /> of 12 inches. The borings for the lysimeters shall have a minimum <br /> outside diameter of 6-5/8 inches. Monitoring tube borings shall not be <br /> drilled using the hollow-stem auger method. <br /> The drilling equipment and materials required to perform the hollow-stem <br /> auger drilling shall be decontaminated. <br /> Grease and other lubricants shall not be used, unless approved by the <br /> Engineer, on the drill casing, drill rods, sampling equipment, or on <br /> tools required to perform the hollow-stem auger drilling. <br /> Water may be used to aid in the return of drill cuttings, when approved <br /> by the Engineer. The water shall be from a potable source approved by <br /> the Engineer. <br /> Contractor and Engineer shall each be responsible for providing sampling <br /> equipment, sample containers, and sample shipment supplies appropriate <br /> for their respective samples. <br /> 2A-5. SAMPLING METHOD AND FREQUENCY. Sampling shall include split <br /> barrel and thin-walled tube sampling as designated herein, in accordance <br /> with the Sampling and Monitoring Plan, and as specified by the Engineer. <br /> The frequency of subsurface soil sampling by the Contractor, Engineer, <br /> and Owner' s agent shall be in accordance with Section 3.2.1 of the <br /> Sampling and Monitoring Plan. <br /> Samples to be tested shall be selected by the Engineer. The Contractor <br /> shall be responsible for collecting and preparing all soil samples for <br /> physical analyses. The Engineer will be responsible for submitting the <br /> soil physical samples to a qualified laboratory.
