A CEIVED
ENVIRONMEN AL991
MINUTES PERMIT/SERVICESLTN
SPECIAL CANCER CLUSTER MEETING
August 8, 1991
Present: Ron Valinoti, Laurie Cotulla, Alison Hudson, Grace
Nukida. Pat Petitt, R. Ram, Dr. Khanna, Eleanor Ratliff, Sandra
Givens
The meeting was called because complaints were received from
residents living in the vicinity of the Marley Cooling Towers.
Marley is in the process of trenching lines as part of the process
for reclaiming contaminated water for cleaning at the plant.
Tests had indicated that contaminant levels in the soil and water
were not high, however there have been incidences of rash
illnesses. A 23 day old infant has been hospitalized at UCD;
several other rash illnesses were reported.
Laurie Cotulla will provide Pat Petitt with names, addresses, etc.
of those residents involved and will find out when the trenching
began. Pat will send PHN' s to investigate.
It was agreed that any media inquiries would be directed to State
Toxic Substance Control Agency; Environmental Health role is to
inspect and permit construction of monitoring wells; Public Health
Nursing role is gathering information.
