Samples should be collected using direct push technology, hollow-stem auger <br /> drilling, or equivalent . <br /> 4 .0. PROCEDURES <br /> 4 . 1 . INSTALLATION OF SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION WELLS <br /> The following procedures will be performed for the installation of soil vapor extraction wells : <br /> 1 . Prepare a Site Health and Safety Plan in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health <br /> Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities - Prepared by National Institute for <br /> Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U. S . Coast <br /> Guard and U. S . Environmental Protection Agency, October 1985 . <br /> 2 . Notify the San Joaquin County Environmental Public Health Services - Environmental Health <br /> Division (PHS-EHD) 48 hours prior to commencement of any work, while securing proper <br /> city/county soil boring permits . <br /> 3 . Boring locations will be marked at least 48 hours in advance for an Underground Service <br /> Alert (USA) check of underground utilities or pipes . <br /> 4 . Advance five soil borings to a total depth of approximately 20 feet bsg utilizing a truck- <br /> mounted drill rig, and 8 . 25 -inch diameter hollow stem augers. Soil boring locations are <br /> depicted on Figure 4 . <br /> 5 . Steam-clean hollow stem augers before advancing into boring. <br /> 6. Complete each soil boring as a soil vapor extraction well. The boring will be completed using <br /> 2-inch diameter slotted PVC screen from an approximate depth of 5 to 20 feet bsg. Blank <br /> PVC screen will be used from 1 -foot to a depth of 5 feet bsg. A filter pack will be installed <br /> utilizing a # 3 sand from depths of 4-feet to a depth of 20 feet bsg, while a bentonite plug will <br /> be placed from depths of 2-feet to a depth of 4 feet bsg. Each well will then be backfilled to <br /> approximately 1 foot bsg with Portland cement. SVE well construction diagrams are depicted <br /> in Figure 5. <br /> 7 . Cuttings and rinseate generated during drilling activities will be containerized in properly <br /> labeled D.O.T. model 17H 55-gallon drums, and stored on-site in an area inaccessible to the <br /> general public. Disposal alternatives will be evaluated based on results of laboratory analyses. <br />
