03 July 1997
AGE-NC Project No . 95 -0121
(bsg) . Therefore, excavation of depths in excess of 18 feet would require a ground water
pumping system to facilitate the dewatering of the excavation. The cost for rental and
operation of a dewatering system for the duration of the project to be between $2,000 and
54 ,000 .
• Several active businesses are presently located on the property. Excavation of impacted soil
would cause a loss for these companies . The actual cost is difficult to estimate; however,
based upon at least a partial loss of business operations for approximately one to two weeks,
total loss to the property owner and business operators could approach $25,000 .
• It is likely that the upper fifteen feet of overburden soil would not contain significant
concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbon and, therefore, could be stockpiled for backfill
purposes . However, excavation of depths in excess of 20 feet bsg may require " shoring"
techniques at for the excavation walls to allow the backhoe/excavator to reach extended
depths. This would require additional excavation of overburden soil as well as additional time.
Additional costs for shoring of the excavation and stockpiling of the "clean" soil could
approach 515, 000 .
• Other costs included for excavation of hydrocarbon-impacted soil from the core area at the
site include project coordination, permitting, laboratory analysis; regulatory liaison and report
preparation. Costs for these items are estimated to be $5,000 to $ 10,000 .
The following is a surmnary of estimated costs for excavation of hydrocarbon-impacted soil from the
core area of the Nomellini site :
TASK COQ I
Excavation, treaunent/disposal and backfilling $ 555,540 to $833 ,310
Excavation dewatering $2,000 to S4.000
Business operational losses - S25,000
Additional excavation costs for shoring, stockpiling, etc. 515,000
it Oversight, Report Preparation & Laboratory Analysis $5 ,000 to $ 10,000
TOTAL : S602,540 fo $887,310
ii
Adranced GcoEnviro=ental, Inc. -
