Remove and Redrill Wells A numb r of the wells at the Lodi
. I
site were completed such ,that their gcreens or gravel packs span
an aquitard and create effective artificial interconnections.
t
i
These wells must be remoN4pd and redrilled before the hydrological
properties of the contaminated aquif r at the site can be
6
I defined. Six wells must -'be removed, and five of those will be
.6
j
redrilled. The wells to remove are RK-1, MW-14, MW-16, MW-17, MW-
18,and MW-21. Existing1well RW-1 will be removed and not
replaced. Wells MW-14, MW-16, MW-17, MW-18, and MW-21 will be
redrilled as specified iri the attatc ed table.
I
Wells should be removed using the most appropriate and cost
F .
effective technique, to be selected in advance in consultation
} with Du Pont. After remdving casings and completion materials,
the wells should be cleaned out and backfilled to the surface
i
with a cement/bentonite r6ixture.
After well RW-1 has beenjiremoved, a pump should be installed in
i
well MW-19 and tied into the on-site air stripper to maintain
control of groundwater flow. MW-19 ' s currently a 4" diameter
monitor well. After conversion it should be provided with a pump
IF
capabl upplying up to 2;0 GPM to th air stripper when water
levels are high enough. 'Appropriate low level controls should be
i
installed to keep the pump from burning out.
7 . Wellhead Design. Install locking covers, and traffic rated
boxes. Some wellheads will need ac ess pipes through the side of
the box. An 8" clearance is needed over the top of the well cap.
f 4
E
f
5 I
