3.1.2 Sites with Operating Permits Only
Various agencies issue operating permits to regulate the handling, movement, storage and
disposal of hazardous materials, and require mandatory reporting. The inclusion of these
sites on the list does not imply that an environmental problem exists or has existed at these
sites; but that a potential for release exists simply because the facility handles, stores, or
disposes of hazardous materials.
Nine facilities were listed on the database within one-quarter mile of the proposed ARCO
' site at downgradient and upgradient locations. The closest facility with a UST is as follows:
Site: Chevron service station
Location: Across the street, to the west (downgradient) at 1103 south Main
Street.
Based on groundwater depth, flow direction, and information obtained from the records
reviewed, there is no reason to believe that any of the listed sites with "operating permits"
have had an environmental impact on soil and groundwater beneath the ARCO Facility.
However, the Chevron service station is located directly across the street in a downgradient
direction but proximal location and presents a moderate potential for environmental impact
. to the site.
3.2 GOVERNMENT AGENCY CONTACT
SECOR has interviewed the local agencies listed below by telephone or by site visit.
