 r l
I
groundwater was discharged into the sanitary sewer at 420 North Madison Street by Evans
Brothers Construction. Laboratory analytical reports for the groundwater samples are included
in Appendix B.
4.5 Soil and Groundwater Sampling and Analyses
Following the removal at the groundwater cited in Section 4.4, on 20 April 2005, one soil
confirmation sample,CPT-EXC-25, was collected from the bottom of the excavation at 25 bgs
i
(Figure 2). One groundwater sample, CPT-EXC-GW,was also collected from water in the
bottom of the excavation. Both samples were analyzed for TPHg and BTEX compounds by EPA
Methods 8015M and 8020 respectively (Tables 1 and 2). In soil confirmation sample CPT-EXC-
25, TPHg, BTEX,and MTBE were not detected above laboratory reporting limits. TPHd was
detected at 1.2 mg/kg. In groundwater sample CPT-EXC-GW, TPHg, and TPHd were detected
at 3,500 and 1,100 micrograms per liter(pg/L)respectively. MTBE and benzene were not
detected above laboratory reporting limits. Toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected
at 9.0 pg/L, 74 gg/L and 290 pg/L respectively.
Tables 1 and 2 show the analytical results for the soil and groundwater confirmation samples,
respectively. Appendix B presents the analytical laboratory reports.
am
4.6 Soil Stockpile Sampling and Disposal
p g ,posal
Soil from the excavation was placed into two stockpiles according to excavation depth. Soil
from the top fifteen feet of the excavation.(shallow stockpile)was separated from soil from the
bottom ten feet of the excavation(deep stockpile). Eight discrete soil.samples were collected
from the deep stockpile on 20 April 2005.` Each discrete sample represented approximately 18 to
20 cubic yards of soil (Table 4). All samples from the soil stockpile were analyzed for TPHg,
BTEX, and MTBE. Table 4 presents the analytical results for the stockpile samples for TPHg,
BTEX, and MTBE. Samples CPTSP-C and CPTSP-F were composited and analyzed for CAM
17 metals for landfill disposal characterization purposes. MTBE and benzene were not detected
above laboratory reporting limits in any of the soil stockpile samples. Toluene, ethylbenzene,
25971024.DGD 7 7 June 2005
