4
I
i
I
contamination. The groundwater is being monitored at each area in OU2 is under the f
supervision of the SJCEHD, and each area is enrolled in the California Underground Storage 4`
Tank (UST) Cleanup Fund. Analytical results of groundwater samples collected during
investigations at OUl have not detected elevated concentrations of constituents that would
require clean-up. A brief description of each parcel, and the associated Compounds of Concern
(COCs) identified in the RAP as requiring remediation follows.
The site is generally flat, with an average surface elevation of approximately 12 feet above mean
sea level. No surface water features or wetlands exist within the area, although the Stockton
Ship Channel abuts the recreational area immediately south of Areas 10 and-11 (Figure 2).
I
2.1 Operable Unit l
Area 10 is also referred to as the Banner Island Site, It was formerly a delta island that was
reclaimed during the 1920s. Area 10 was leased by the City of Stockton to the Guntert and
Zimmermann Construction Division, Inc. and was used for shipbuilding and repair and steel
storage until the 1970s. No structures remain, and the Site is partially covered by pavement.
The compounds of concern for Area 10 soil are total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as diesel
(TPHd) and as motor oil (TPHmo), as well as selected polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
(PAHs).
Area 11 was reportedly a delta island that was also reclaimed in the 1920s. Area 11 was used for
I
steel fabrication until the early 1970s. No above ground structures remain, and prior to the RAP
remediation, a reinforced concrete slab covered approximately half the parcel. The CDCs for
Area 11 soil are TPHd, TPHmo, PAHs, and lead.
Area 20 was originally used as a switching yard for the Western Pacific Rail Road. The COC for
Area 20 soil is arsenic.
25971025.DGD 6 11 August 2005
Ii
f
