-, subsurface Erironmental Investigation September 21, 1989
i Abandoned I.P;ner Service Station, Lodi, California AGS 38055-1
concentrations. The dimensions of the excavated tank pit are
approximately 12 feet by 13 feet by 27 feet. The excavation has Cf
sinca been backfilled by others to an approximate depth of 12
feet; compaction requirements and observation services during
backfilling (if any) were also provided by others. -'
GEOLOGY -
410
EOLOGY -
The service station is located in the Central Valley geomorphic
province of California. Areas adjacent to the site are flat with
little topographic relief. The area is underlain by a thick
-
sequence of coritinantal and, marine sediments ranging in age from
Recent to pre-Cretaceous (California Department of Water
Resources, 1967) . Most of the pre-Cretaceous to mid--Tertiary
sediments in this portion of the valley are of marine origin,
while the late Tertiary to Recent sediments consist primarily of
continental deposits. Depositional and erosional sequences were
primarily controlled by fluctuations in sea level. Fresh and
brackish water lakes that formed in the valley resulted in
deposition of lacustrine , lay over extensive areas. higher
f energy environments, such'.as rivers and streams, resulted in the
}, deposition of channel sand and gravel.
3
Geosystems
