of over-spill between the two tanks, however' there was no odor of <br /> petroleum in the native soil under the tanks where the samples <br /> were taken. Two samples were taken at depths of 16 feet from the <br /> north and south ends of the former 5 , 000 gallon gasoline tank lo- <br />! cation TK-3A and TK-3B (see attached drawing for all tank, line, <br /> pump island and stock pile locations) . There was an odor of petro- <br /> , leum in the north sample, TK-3B. One line trench sample was taken <br /> at a depth of six feet . There was an odor of petroleum in the <br /> trench sample . Twelve samples to make six composites were taken <br /> from the stock piled spoil to the south�{of the excavation. Sp-1, <br /> 3 , 5, 7 , 9 and 11 were taken from the ndrth ;;side of the pile . SP <br /> 2 , 4, 6, 8 , 10 and 12 were taken from the south side of the pile . <br /> Samples 1&2 , 3&4 , 5&6 , 7&8, 9&10 and 11&12 Will be mixed respec- <br /> tively to make the composites . Soil samplejanalyses results are <br /> not available at the time of this writing. (There were obvious <br /> signs of contamination immediately under the pump island as the F <br /> concrete was being removed. A small excavation to a depth of ap- <br /> proximately 15 feet was done to try to clean up said contamina- <br /> tion. The resulting void is approximately 15 'x 15 x 15 ' . The <br /> spoil is stock piled with the spoil from the tank excavation to <br /> the south of the excavation. The estimated,) total of excavated ma- <br /> terial, including the tank excavation is 300 cubic yards . <br /> 6 . Remediation Steps : Teresi Trucking has,� retained Wm. Hunter and j <br /> Associates and Jim Thorpe Oil Co. , IncA to undertake the cleanup <br /> phase of this project . After consultation with Wm. Hunter and Jim <br /> Thorpe Oil Co. , Inc . , Teresi Trucking, Inc . �Ehas decided to remove <br /> as much of the contamination remaining beneath the tank pit and <br /> pump island areas as possible by over-excavation. The proposed <br /> excavation will start in the area of sample TK-3B (see attached <br /> drawing) in the original excavation and,� extend westerly, along the <br /> pipeline trench, to a point approximately 10 ' past the former pump <br /> island slab, encompassing the entire former,� pump island location <br /> and beyond to a depth of 25 feet . Adjustments can be made if nec- <br /> essary. The total amount of additional soil to be removed will be <br /> approximately 250 to 300 cubic yards for a total of approximately <br /> 600 cubic yards including previously excavated soil . Every effort <br /> will be made to separate contaminated soil from the clean. Clean <br /> soil will be stored on-site for use in backfill operation. Obvi- <br /> ously contaminated spoil will be placedjlon plastic sheeting and <br /> covered with same if necessary. After an actual volume and con- l <br /> tamination levels are determined, soil willsbe treated biologi- <br /> cally utilizing a mixing device. Details will made available at <br /> the appropriate time. All reports and conclusions will be submit- <br /> ted by Wm. Hunter and Assoc . <br /> 7 . Soil Sampling: Soil sampling will be accomplished by retrieving <br /> samples from the appropriate areas with` the� excavator bucket . <br /> 2 <br />
