r <br /> o Drilling and soil sampling; <br /> o Installation of monitoring wells; <br /> o Development of monitoring wells; <br /> o Ground water sampling; and <br /> o Soil boring, test pit and/or hydropunch testing. <br /> A detailed description of the procedures that will be used to <br /> complete each of these tasks is presented below. <br /> 2.2.2 <br /> A Dames & Moore geologist will be present during drilling <br /> . operations and .installation of monitoring wells. The geologist <br /> will be responsible for obtaining relatively undisturbed samples <br /> of the subsurface materials, maintaining logs of borings as well <br /> as providing technical assistance to the driller during the well <br /> installation procedures. Logs of borings will be classified <br /> according to the Unified soil Classification System. Borings will <br /> be drilled using a truck-mounted hollcw stem auger rig. <br /> Boring logs recorded during drilling will be used, along with <br /> existing data, to further define the hydrostratigraphy of the site. <br /> r <br /> 2.2.3 Soil S ma x,lig <br /> Soil samples will be collected during drilling. Samples will <br /> be collected using a Dames & Moore U-type sampler or an 18-inch <br /> w California modified split-spoon sampler containing 2.5-inch <br /> diameter stainless steel sleeves. <br /> -or each boring, a minimum of two and no more than five soil <br /> ' samp:ies collected above the water table will be submitted fcr <br /> laboratory analysis. soil sampling procedures are as follows: <br /> i� <br /> o Prion to use, the sampler and ,stainless steel sleeves <br /> will be washed in trisodium phosphate (TSP), and rinsed <br /> with clean water. <br /> a The sampler will be inserted through the auger :lights <br /> and driven into undisturbed soil ahead of the boring by <br /> a standard 140 pound hammer falling 30 inches. The <br /> number of blows required to drive the sampler each 3-inch <br /> segment into the soil will be recorded. <br /> o Once extracted, the sampler will be opened and the <br /> stainless steel sleeves separated using a clean knife. <br /> The Dames & Moore geologist will log the soil contained <br /> in the sleeves. <br /> o The. contents of the sleeve with the most utsd=^turbed <br /> ` representative soil will be used for laboratory ana.ysis. <br /> LD01.064 <br /> 4 <br />
