Trip blanks are <br /> prepared by the laboratory, travel to the field, kept with the <br /> samples during sampling, and return to the laboratory unopened with <br /> the collected oamples for analysis. These blanks consist of ultra- <br /> pure distilled water sealed in a clean contaiLer. One trip blank <br /> is required for each sampling cooler-. <br /> 4.3.2 Wield Blanks <br /> The purpose of field blanks is to detect contamination <br /> associated with the water used in rinsing field e:luipment. The <br /> field blank is opened in the field, filled with the water used for <br /> equipment rinsing, and returned to the laboraf pry as a sample. The <br /> blank is analyzed for the same parameters a•', the samples. <br /> 4.3.3 Equipment Blank:g <br /> The purpose of equipment blanks is to detect contamination <br /> associated with inadequate cleaning of sampling equipment. The <br /> equipment blank is opened in the field, the contents poured over <br /> or through the field sampling instrument, cc11e;•ted_ in a sample <br /> container, and returned to the laboratory as a samplE. The blank <br /> is analyzed for the Name parameters as the samples. <br /> 4.3.4 Duplicate Sam2les <br /> Luplicates are collected and analyzed to evaluate sampling <br /> _ precision by the laboratory. D!.iplicate samples are collected <br /> A^ immediately after the primary sample from, the same location with <br /> the same equipment and proce6ures. Ten percent of the samples are <br /> analyzed in duplicate. <br /> Z' 4.4 SAMPLE DOCUMENTATION <br /> Samyle documentation includes sample identification, <br /> 'maintenance of records in field memos, and tracking of chain-of- <br /> custody procedures. All samples collected will be labeled with <br /> the following information: .. <br /> o Dames & Moore job number; <br /> o Sample number; <br /> o Depth and locatior;; _ <br /> o Date and time col.le�ted; <br /> o Name of collector; and r.,. <br /> o Any unusual observations. <br /> Field records of ground Mater and soil samples will be <br /> maintained in field memos by field personnel.
