Former Countryside Market - 3 - • 8 August 2012
10848 Copperopolis Rd., Stockton
San Joaquin County
reported 1,2-DCA above MCLs in the well water (25 ug/L) and after the owner's
domestic well treatment system (7.8 ug/L). The10967 well owner stated they had
purchased the property with a wellhead carbon treatment system in place (the prior
owner was notified that the well was impacted with 1,2-DCA in 2000). The current
owner stated the carbon unit that was overdue for maintenance and that they would
have it replaced. The Report recommends additional investigative activities to further
characterize the lateral extent of petroleum hydrocarbons impact to groundwater,
changing the carbon unit at 10967 domestic well, and resampling said well quarterly.
The Workplan proposed the installation of monitoring wells MW-6 and MW-7 and three
soil borings (SB-1 through SB-3) spaced at 75' intervals along the opposite (north) side
of Copperopolis Road from the Site. MW-6 and MW-7, constructed as 2-inch diameter
monitoring wells with 20' long well screens, and SB-1 through SB-3 will be advanced to
approximately 100' below ground surface bgs. Grab groundwater samples will be
collected from SB-1 through SB-3. MW-6 and MW-7 will be sampled one week after
installation.
The Workplan was written in compliance with tasks in the Cost Estimate (TSGI,
31 July 2012) approved by my letter dated 31 July 2012, and is necessary and
appropriate to investigate the release of petroleum hydrocarbons, and to assess
potential human health risks to nearby domestic wells. The Workplan is approved,
though implementation of the work is contingent upon funding availability and execution
of the contract amendment for FY12-13. Please provide the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department and myself at least 3 working days' notice prior to
initiation of fieldwork, and contact me by phone at (916) 464-4614 or by email at
ibartonewaterboards.ca.gov if you have questions or comments.
James L.L. Barton, P.G.
Engineering Geologist
UST Enforcement Unit II
cc: Pearl Cross, State Water Resources Control Board, UST Cleanup Fund
Conrad Lewis, DGS, Real Estate Division, 707 3rd St., West Sacramento 95605
Nuel Henderson, San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department,
Stockton
