PRIMEX TECHNOLOGIES • •
Corrective Measures Study Workplan, EPA ID No. CAD 000 626 762
May 2000
hydrocarbons and heavier range hydrocarbons, TPHd and 0&G will be run on soil
samples collected during the implementation of the CMS WP. Since the RFI sample
results did not indicate the presence of any light-range hydrocarbons analysis for TPH
as gasoline will not be implimented. Samples will be analyzed for TPHd and 0&G by
the following methods:
Analysis Method
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons — diesel EPA Method 8015 Modified
Oil & Grease EPA Method 1664
During the step-out sampling at SWMU #21, the upper two samples (at 2'/2 and 5 feet
bgs) at each location will be analyzed for TPHd and O&G, the deeper samples will be
placed on hold at the laboratory pending receipt of analytical results for the shallow
samples. If the 5-foot sample result exceeds 100 mg/kg for TPHd or O&G, the 7'/2 and
10-foot samples will be analyzed. If the 10-foot sample result exceeds 100 mg/kg for
TPHd or O&G, the remaining 12% and 15-foot samples will be analyzed.
Monitoring of soil samples using a photoionization detector is not proposed for this
CMS WP since volatile organic compounds are not of concern and the anticipated
petroleum hydrocarbons are in the heavy range.
6.4 Sample Documentation and Quality Assurance/Quality Control
Sample documentation and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) sample
procedures have been established in the RFI WP (August 1999) and will continue
during the implementation of the CMS WP field work. These procedures and any
deviation from the RFI WP procedures are summarized below.
6.4.1 Sample Documentation
Sample logs will be completed for each sampling location. The sample logs will
include, at a minimum, the following.
1. sampling location,
2. identification of the sampler,
3. sample media,
4. type of sample and container,
5. sample identification,
6. field observations and
7. classification of soil type
Sample identification will follow the protocol used during the RFI WP: [Site name] —
[sample location][sample depth]. Sample labels will include the following.
CHOW ENGINEERING, INC. 8
