CHOW ENGINEERING,INC.
7 May 2001
4.0 Controlled Access Zones
To decrease safety risks, CE restricts access to the work areas on all of its sites. A
controlled access zone (CAZ) shall be clearly defined by the crew superintendent (CS)
as an area where a recognized hazard exists. Marking of the CAZ will be
communicated by the crew superintendent, in a recognized manner, either through the
use of signs, fencing, wire, tape, rope or chains.
CE shall take the following steps to ensure that the CAZ is clearly marked and
controlled:
• All access to the CAZ must be restricted; only authorized persons shall be
allowed entry;
• All workers who are permitted in the CAZ shall be listed in the appropriate
sections of the SP (or be visibly identifiable by the competent person prior to
entry;
• The site supervisor shall ensure that all protective elements of the CAZ will
be implemented prior to commencing work.
5.0 Health Hazards
Commensurate with information developed in previous investigations at the sites and
by CE's Hazard Evaluation of the work area the preponderant expected hazards on site
will involve the following.
1) Possible inhalation or ingestion of diesel fuel and lubricant range petroleum
hydrocarbon impacted soil dust from sediment sampling activities,
2) Possible inhalation or ingestion of cement dust generated during the removal
of the concrete pad at AOC 4,
3) Possible inhalation or ingestion of diesel fuel and lubricant range petroleum
hydrocarbon impacted soil dust generated during excavation activities, and
4) Possible inhalation or ingestion of hydrocarbon impacted soil dust during
loading of sediment for disposal.
All work will be performed in Level "D" unless otherwise indicated by site conditions.
The following presents the proposed remedial measures to mitigate the previously
mentioned health hazards.
Site Specific Safety Plan
General Dynamics(Primex,Inc.)
SWMU 21 and AOC 4 Project 3
