2.0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION <br /> Background information considered relevant to the Phase I and II environmental site <br /> assessment includes the site location, a physical description of the site, and regional geology/ <br /> hydrogeology <br /> 21 SITE LOCATION <br /> The site is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of Country Club Boulevard <br /> and Pershing Avenue, within the corporate boundaries of the City of Stockton and <br /> San Joaquin County. The site location is shown in Figure 1 and a plan of the site is <br /> presented in Figure 2 <br /> Prominent man-made landmarks in the area include the University of the Pacific about <br /> 0 3 miles to the north, U S Interstate 5 about 1 mile to the southwest, and the Stockton <br /> Deep Water Channel about 1 mile to the south Land use in the immediate site vicinity <br /> includes a mixture of commercial and residential Natural landmarks in the area include <br /> the Calaveras River about 0 7 miles to the north and the San Joaquin River about 16 miles <br /> to the southeast. <br /> 2 2 SITE DESCRIPTION <br /> The site is roughly rectangular, measuring about 116 feet in the north-south direction by <br /> about 170 feet in the east-west direction The site occupies an area of about 0 45 acres and <br /> comprises Assessors Parcels No 113-042-15 and 113-042-16 At the time of Geosystem's site <br /> visit on January 12, 1995, the site featured a single surface structure -- a two-story <br /> commercial bank building The remainder of the site features an asphalt-paved parking Iot <br /> with walkways and landscaped areas The elevation of the land surface at the site is <br /> approximately 8 feet above sea level (U S Geological Survey, 1987) <br /> The building was reportedly a branch of Bank of the West until November 18 1994 but was <br /> P Y , <br /> vacant at the time of Geosystem's site visit. The building was also occupied in the past by <br /> 2-1 <br /> GBMSYS7E.Ml <br /> Consultants, Inc <br />
