WELL DEVELOPMENT
The newly installed wells will be allowed to cure for approximately 72 hours prior to development.
Development will be by surge and block method. Purging of the wells will continue until water
clarity has been achieved.
FLUIDS AND SOLIDS HANDLING
All solid and sludge material produced by the drilling of the wells will be placed on and covered
with 6 mil black plastic and left on site for future profiling and disposal, if necessary.
All fluids produced by the drilling and well development will be placed into 55 gallon DOT 17H
drums and secured onsite. Once the solids have settled the water will be processed through the
onsite carbon treatment system for later sewer disposal and the solids will be placed with the
drilling cuttings for profiling and if necessary, later disposal.
GROUNDWATER PUMP AND TREATMENT SYSTEM
During the over-excavation of gasoline contaminated soils a temporary groundwater treatment
system was constructed. This system consists of 4, in series, water carbon units that discharge into
a 55 gallon sewer discharge drum that houses a high level off switch and the required Lower
Explosion Limit sensor. The treated water is then metered and discharged to the sanitary sewer
under permit to discharge. This system was shown to adequately treat the water pumped during
excavation dewatering at 10 gallon per minute. This system will be upgraded to a continuous
pumping and treatment system with a maximum rate of 10 gpm for the purpose of recovering
gasoline contaminated groundwater. The efforts of this pump and treat system will help in
expediting this site towards clean-up goals and a "no further action necessary" classification.
CARBON WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM
The existing carbon water treatment system will need to be placed on secondary containment to
prevent spillage from leaky drums, fittings, valves, etc. The secondary containment will be spill
control pallets that are EPA approved polyethylene trays with grates or a monolithic poured
concrete sump that will hold any spillage from the drums, hoses, pumps etc necessary for the
treatment of gasoline contaminated groundwater. The carbon units, and hose attachments will be
placed on /over the secondary containment in such a way that any leaks/spillage will be captured
and stored. Safety shut off(s) to the groundwater recovery pump and treatment system will be
activated to completely turn off the water recovery/treatment system if fluids are detected in the
secondary containment. No pumping, treatment or flow of groundwater will proceed until after
inspection of the treatment system and the containment area verifies that all malfunctions have been
repaired and there are no unauthorized releases associated with the pumping and treatment system.
6 Sanchez WORKPLAN 9-03
