e. Notification of regulatory agencies during emergency procedures. <br /> f. Enforcement of site safety precautions. . <br /> 3.0 - PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EOUIPINIE`IT <br /> During excavation or drilling in soils containing organic vapors and liquid contaminants, all <br /> personnel shall undertake the following precautions: <br /> 3.1 Skin/Clothes Protection <br /> a. Hard hats, steel-toed rubber boots, and suitable gloves will be worn at all times. <br /> b. Disposable plastic gloves will be worn for sampling (if required) and changed after <br /> each sample. <br /> c. Disposable protective clothing will be wom as warranted. <br /> 3.2 Respiratory/Eye/Ear Protection <br /> a. During the trenching or drilling activities, ambient air and soil vapor will be monitored <br /> with an OVA. - <br /> b. Site perimeter will also be monitored on 30 minute intervals. Monitoring frequency <br /> will be increased by the site manager if conditions approach 10 ppm with the OVA. <br /> c. Half face/full face respirators will be wom as warranted (see Section 5). <br /> d. Safety glasses/goggles will be wom during all activities. <br /> e. Appropriate hearing protection will be used as warranted (see Section 4.2). <br /> 4.0 - PHYSICAL HAZARDS <br /> Safety hazards will be typical of those associated with construction activities involving heavy <br /> equipment. Possible hazards include heat stress, noise, drilling, and excavation activities. <br /> 4.1 Excavation <br /> Contractor personnel will be responsible for performing the trenching and adhering to <br /> standard safety procedures. The exclusion zone for the work area will be a 30-foot <br /> radius around the trenching area. Only authorized.personnel will be permitted within <br /> the exclusion zone. No smoking will be permitted within the exclusion zone. <br />
